July 30, 2011 Original Windsurfer Regatta in Taverse City

While in Traverse City I met up with Ted Schweitzer, son of Hoyle Schweitzer, one of the pioneers in the sport of windsurfing.  He is hosting windsurfer one design regattas in Bower’s Harbor.  I was just going to go and watch, but ended up racing and taking first in my weight class.  I even won a trophy!  Not a major feet because there were two others in my weight class and one, Dan Dalquist, was taking photos of us from his canoe most of the day.  He was not accumulating any points while I was racing. The day started out with no wind but ended with winds around 20 mph.  I was toast after sailing 5 races with no harness.  It was a great day on the water.  I plan to go again next summer.  It was fun sailing with windsurfing royalty.  The photos of me in this gallery were taken by Dan Dalquist.  Thanks Dan!
